Myanmar is a place where people live in extreme poverty, which makes education difficult to pay for. To invest in Myanmar’s future, we have committed to giving people an opportunity though education. We have done this through an supporting an orphanage and also small schools that are more accessible to marginalized communities throughout the region. Education in itself is an important investment in youth that works to elevate people out of poverty and into relevant work training. Through Education we are enabling students to stay local, and as such, we are helping minimize the chance for them to be trafficked out the of country.
One of the most successful ways to invest in a community is to support young, hard working women. We have watch the achievements and success of one young woman for many years. In 2014 we brought her to the US to go to college, so that she can go back to Myanmar and make a significant difference as a local. Her time in the US she has continued to be a hard working and studious. After she finishes school she will be heading back to Myanmar to refocus on building up her community based on what she learned.
Our newest program is to support the local education by buying computers for school. Most schools do not even have enough money to pay the teacher or buy necessary resources for the classroom. A local orphanage and church is helping us find the appropriate schools that would benefit the most from the computers. In many ways a computer does more than just a gift of technology, it also connects them to the outside world. It also offers many educational tools that are online. This is just one of the many programs that has arisen from community discussion and local needs.
